Monday night students will be bringing home their agendas. Students will be expected to begin their nightly spelling practice and home reading. Agendas will be need to be sent back and forth, Monday through Friday. Please help your child be organized by checking the agenda each night and signing that they have completed their homework. Students are expected to bring it into the classroom each morning. Home reading books must be returned for students to be able to bring home new books.
This week we will finish up our Bach studies. Our grade two students are very artistic and musical! They have been quite enthusiastic to learn more and more about this composer. Next week we will begin Leonardo De Vinci.
In Language Arts this week, we will continue to review vowels. Students have been learning about proper punctuation and writing using complete sentences. We will be finishing up our Terry Fox reading and begin our guided reading lessons in small groups. Students will be reading from a reader called East of the Sun.
In Math, we have been reviewing basic facts of addition and subtraction and learning about Math Patterns. Students have been creating repeated patterns and this week we will begin looking at growing patterns. I have been using the terms "Core" and "Attribute" when teaching about patterns. Students have a solid understanding of the core in a pattern but the word "Attribute" will need some attention this week. Our arts integration in Math this week will include an art project in math that looks at math number patterns on a circular number line. Should be pretty cool!
Social Studies has been a focus as we learn about our classroom community and work to become a cohesive group. This week we will be looking at our roles and responsibilities at school. I will be using "I care" statements to help teach and reinforce our school beliefs.
This should be a great week. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at the school or send a note in your child's agenda. I'm happy to help!
