Last week we completed our first full week of school. I want to tell you what wonderful group of grade twos we have. I am thoroughly enjoying getting to know your child. They have easily slipped back into routines and are enthusiastic to learn.
This week we will begin our agendas and spelling program. Using an agenda is a brand thing for our grade twos! Your child will need support to use it and to bring it to and from school each day. They are required to have a parent sign and check it each night. I will usually staple newsletters in it and put in work that needs finishing. Please support your child as we set new routines. This helps with their future schooling years and keeps them more organized.
Along with Agendas this week we will begin home reading. Students will need to record the name of the book and how long they read each night Students are required to read at least 15 minutes every night. Part of their mark on the report cards will be based on this recording.
I will put in a home reading book at approximately the level I believe they are at. This is based on their reading level from the end of grade one and the attrition that I know happens over the summer. If for some reason this choice is not a good fit for your child (too easy, too hard) please let me know. Your child will be learning to exchange their home reading books daily. If they forget or do not return their home reading, I will not send a book the next night.
Last Week: We were learning about patterns in math. Students were introduced to the words "core" and "attribute." Students were learning to make and continue more complicated patterns. We played with patterns in our names.
We learned about Leonardo Da Vinci and the painting the "Mona Lisa."
We started learning how we can become responsible citizens in our community and what we want our classroom community to look like.
Students were reviewing vowels sounds and where we hear them in words.
We read some Reader's Theatre Scripts and began our daily 5 reading program
