I want to share with you our class is really progressing well. As we near the end of our term, I am realizing the growth in our grade two students each day. This is assessment week and I will be continuing to test all students on reading, math and writing. It is exciting to confirm the progress we see each day. Please ensure your children sleep and eat well this week.
Weather Changes : With the weather changing, students are beginning to wear warmer clothing including boots. Please ensure your child has appropriate footwear for indoors. An extra pair of indoor shoes to wear is recommended.
Toys Policy: Do you know Parkcrest has a policy that students are not allowed to bring toys to school? We have had so many problems with toys going missing, distractions, stealing, we have had to make the rule "NO toys at school" On show and tell days, I have told my students they may keep their special item behind my desk, but it is not to go outside. Thanks for your help with this matter.
What's Happening in Grade Two??
Reading: We have been reading short stories and looking at our comprehension skills. I have been teaching students to really pay attention to the who, what, when, where, why in a story. Students are beginning to answer comprehension questions in complete sentence answers
Writing: We have been working on our punctuation skills, using periods and capitals. Students have been trying to expand their writing with more detailed sentences
Math: We have finished our unit on Fact Families and last week students started double digit adding. This week we will begin looking at place value skills. This is a pre-skill to regrouping (adding with carrying)
Science: Your child may have come home talking about matter. We are doing a lot of science experiments right now to do with solids, liquids and gas. Last week we used cheerios to symbolize molecules in matter.
