This week we begin to look at Remembrance Day. For our grade twos, this means we will be talking about creating Peace and what does Peace mean to them. We will be reading about Peace, some creative writing and some art related to poppies.
Last week we completed our Art Cards. If you remember, last year, classes made Winter/Xmas Art cards as a PAC fundraiser. We are doing them again!! What happens is each child makes a piece of art that will be sent away and turned into a professional card!!! This card along with an order form will be sent home to you in a few weeks and you will have a choice to order as many as you want. Our class this year made Red Birds in Winter. They turned out gorgeous and will be wonderful keepsakes I'm sure.
Current Themes of Study:
Reading- We are learning from the program Daily Five. We have made wonderful progress with 'Read to Self" and 'Read to Someone'. Students last week learned about the strategy of 'check for understanding'. This reminds them to look for the 'who' and 'what is happening' on each page in the story.
Writing- Students have been working hard writing in their journals. Last week they completed a journal entry on their YPC Theatre visit. Students were able to clearly print their thoughts on the page. Grade two students are expected to print 4-6 good quality sentences.
Math- We are now learning about double digit adding. We have not learned about adding with carrying yet but rather double digit adding and ensuring they start adding with the ones column. Some students find this tricky. We did not do a math quiz last Friday as it was so busy with Halloween.
Upcoming Dates:
