Agendas: Your child should have started bringing it home last week. Please sign it each night as I will be checking it each day. This is another way we can communicate with each other and it will keep you up to date on your child's homework, projects and due dates.
Reminder- Spelling words come home on Monday night! Please remind your child to practice these words. It will improve our writing skills! :)
Menchie's Orders: These are due in to the school by Oct. 9 and deliveries will happen Oct. 14th. Thanks to the PAC for organizing this fun event!
Themes in Our Classroom Right Now
Writing: All About Me Projects
Reading: "What in the World" Articles. We are working on Comprehension skills.
These articles teach the students about current events around the world. We are currently reading one about the Drought in Canada and this week we will begin another about the upcoming Election.
Next week we will begin the Novel- Among the Hidden by Margaret Haddix. Students will be bringing this book home to read and complete assignments
Math: We are currently working out of the Jump Math Program working math patterns with Numbers.
Mrs. Atkinson comes in to our room 2 blocks a week to teach us fun games we can play to build our numeracy skills
Social Studies: We are currently learning about Canada. We are developing our map skills and will soon begin learning about the government in Canada.
Twice a week our class does some research with Ms. Gorman on Japan in the Library.
Science: Students in our class are learning about the Human Body with Ms. Gobelle
Health and Career: We are learning about goal setting and personal responsibilities
Artist of the Month: We are basing our artist study this term from the book titled "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. Dots connect us with all sorts of artists and cultures. The idea I have put forth to the students is "Make your mark this year and see where it will take you!" We will be learning about dots within art. We will begin with learning about Kandinsky and then move into Klimt and finish this theme with a unit on pointillism with George Seurat. I believe it will be a lot of fun and our students will be able to connect it with our social studies learning about the world culture with dots!
