Reminder Skating- Monday Jan 26th Welcome Back!!! Happy January to all of you!! The children are very excited to return to school and see their friends. We certainly have a lot of snow on the playground now. The children are enjoying it and I was pleased that many remembered to dress appropriately so they could play outside.
We do now have many students though that have forgotten their indoor shoes. Eeeek! This always makes me nervous if the fire alarm goes as students are not all owed to wear their boots in the school. We also have gym on Friday and need our indoor shoes for this. Please ensure your child has indoor shoes everyday. Thanks for your help with this matter. No Spelling this Week: With this week being so short, I have decided we will start our spelling again on Monday Jan 12th. New Units for the New Year: Language Arts: Short Stories- comprehension Writing- paragraph structure and good topic sentences Two vowels go walking rule soft C and hard C and soft G and Hard G Math: Money and adding with carrying Social Studies: Mapping Science: States of Matter Health and Career: Nutrition Artist of the Month: Vincent VanGogh Christmas is coming soon! Our class will be busy ‘little elves’ over the next two weeks. Here is what will be happening: Christmas Crafts and Projects Crafts: I am asking each child to bring in $4 by Friday Dec. 12th to cover the cost of these special projects. We have a few Christmas crafts and gift items we will be making. I know these are special keepsakes that families will often keep from year to year. Unfortunately the school does not cover the cost for such items. I am asking each child to bring in $4 to help cover the costs as I will need to go shopping and buy the supplies. Gingerbread Santa Sleighs: One of our projects will be a Gingerbread Santa Sleigh. On Tuesday Dec. 16th at 9 am we will be making these with graham wafers and royal icing. I am asking each child to bring in a bag of candy for this project. I will divide all the candy up and then each child will get a mixed bag to decorate their sleighs. All the other items (chocolate Santa, Hershey kiss reindeers, licorice reins, graham wafers, royal icing, paper plates, and baggies I will provide). I will also be needing parent helpers on this day to assist us with the construction. Are you available from 9 -11 am? Please let me know- we would love to have our parent’s help with this project! Christmas Concert: Our concert is on Thursday Dec. 18th. We will have two sharing times @ 10:20 and again @ 1 pm. Our class will be a part of the choir. We will be singing 4 songs with the other primaries. We will also perform two pieces later in the program by ourselves. We will be performing one song titled Seven Feet of Snow and one poem titled Dangerous Contraption. I have told our grade twos they will wear our blue Parkcrest choir shirts and I have asked them to wear black bottoms (skirt or pants is fine- as long as it is solid black) I would also like our class to wear a colourful scarf and toque. If you are able to ensure they have this tomorrow that would help greatly so we can begin rehearsing with it on. Please ensure your child’s hair is neatly combed and pinned back out of their eyes on this day. Thanks for your help with this. We want them to look and sound their best for their families! Skating is Next Monday- Dec. 8th
Permission slips for skating will be going home Monday. Does your child have skates and a helmet? Please let me know ASAP if your child needs skates. We do have some skates here that may fit. I will not be able to get skates on skating day (please give me as much notice as possible). Gloves/mitts and helmets are mandatory. Students are allowed to bring a hockey stick if they would like to play hockey. We will only allow foam pucks on the ice. Only students wearing full face helmets will be allowed to play. I will need a couple of parents to walk with us to the rink and as well as help tie skates. The more parents we have, the more time the children get on the ice as it takes a long time to tie everyones skates. I am also wondering if there might be a parent that would be willing to load all our skates and equipment in their vehicle and meet us there. This is a huge help for our grade twos! Brrrr!!! It is sure cold out there!!! Winter is here. Please make sure your child is properly dressed to go outside in the cold and snow. It would be very helpful to have extra clothes in your child’s locker in case he/she is cold or wet. Please send extra socks and pants for these occasions. Thank-you. It is very casual this year but we will have two sharing times- one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Hopefully you can come to one! Sorry if this causes any confusion- I was not expecting a change as I am already organizing our pieces. Please call me if you have any questions or concerns. Hot Lunch will happen on Friday Nov. 21st Photo Orders are due Wed. Nov. 19th (same as retake day) Parkcrest Spirit Clothing day- This Friday- wear your Parkcrest Items or blue and green for Parkcrest Colours. Me2We is collecting food for the needy until Nov. 24th- drop it off at the office please. Brrrr! It's sure getting colder out there. Please remember to ensure your child has the warm clothes they need to be outside this week. They are out for recess and lunch and we have noticed many that do not have toques, mittens and warm coats. It's a long time for our kids to be outside without the essentials. Thanks for your help with this!
We are now half way through November and I am very pleased with the progress I am seeing in my grade twos. Thank-you for your hard work with them at home too. Just listening to your child read each night makes a huge difference in our students. They move up in their reading levels much more quickly than without it. Thank-you for your support at home. I appreciate all of you signing the agendas and letting me know if they are reading and how the books feel for your child. Christmas Is Coming Parkcrest will not be having a School wide Christmas concert in the gym this year. Instead classes will be scheduling their own events in the gym and classrooms. I would like to invite you to join us on Monday December 15 from 1:30-2:30 for a little performance and craft time. It will be a wonderful afternoon to spend together! I hope you can make it. I will send out more information as we get closer to the day. Our choir will also be having a little Christmas sharing/sing along on this same day Dec. 15 from 11-12. It will be a wonderful day full of Christmas spirit!!! :) Upcoming Dates: Picture Retake Day- Nov.19 Early Closure Day - Dec. 4- 12:30 pm Pro-d Day - Dec. 5 Skating- Dec. 8/ Jan 26- afternoon (we will need parent helpers for this! :) Gymnastics- TBA Big Little Science Center- TBA Choir Sings @ Overlander Extended Care- Thursday Dec.11- 1:00-2:30 pm Class Christmas Performance/Craft Afternoon- Mon Dec. 15 |
