Reminder bring a pumpkin for Monday if you are able- one pumpkin for each buddy couple would be perfect. If you have child proof carving knives please send them as well (with your child's name on it). We don't really want the students using knives. Thanks for your help with this!

It's almost Halloween! The weather is definitely becoming cooler. This morning I awoke to snow on the ground. We will need to make sure students are coming to school properly dressed. All students will be outside rain or shine unless the wind chill is unsafe...so....it is time to get those mittens out and make sure your child has a warm coat and even proper shoes.
With Halloween on the way, I wanted to let you know we will be doing some special things around this next week.
4CatsArtStudio: Thank-you to those parents that have offered to help us this week with driving to the art studio. A letter is coming home on Monday regarding this field trip. All students also need to have a waiver signed before we go on Friday. I have included that with our letter on Monday! Phone List: Class phone list will be sent home on Monday- please look for this! This Week: Monday: Library PE (make up class for Friday Oct.19) Tuesday: Computers Wednesday: PE Thursday: Buddies Families can view pumpkins 6:30-8:00 pm at Gardengate Friday: PE Computers Choir The middle of October is here- let's enjoy the beautiful Autumn colours this week!

Please welcome to our classroom this Wednesday- 2 TRU student teachers- Mr. Baker (Music specialist) and Ms. Dueck (visual art specialist)- They will be with us each Wednesday until Mid November. I'm certain the students will enjoy their energy and enthusiasm! Language Arts This Week- we will be reading Autumn stories from our reader East of the Sun- This week we will be answering questions about our reading- Who? What? Where? When? Our phonics portion will review "magic e" vowels and we will begin learning about the "2 vowels go walking the first one does the talking and says its own name" rule. Writing- We are learning how to write complete solid sentences with capitals and end punctuation. Last Thursday we learned about Noun and Verbs. Students are learning to write juicy sentences with more words and details. Social Studies: We are learning about community- this week we will begin looking at who makes up the school community. Science: This week will be an introduction to our Owls unit. Students are always interested in these amazing birds! Math: We are now working on basic math facts. Last week we began adding 3 numbers together using brackets. We will continue this concept this week and learn more strategies to help our math facts become automatic. Upcoming Events: Oct 26- 12:45 pm- CatsArt4Kids field trip- we will be going to an art studio downtown (Seymour St) I will be needing parent drivers for this event. Students will be painting Snowy Owl portraits on Canvas (like real artists!!!) Cost will be $10 per student Nov.2- 1 pm-We will be going to a play at the Pavillion Theatre titled "Where the Wild Things Are." This play is based on the children's storybook by Maurice Sendak. We will be traveling by school bus- cost is $7 per student and $10 per adult if you wish to join us. PAC has kindly offered to pay for our busing cost. Skating at Brock Arena- dates coming soon- we will be having our first session in early November- it is time to find those skates!!!
